Jeweling or Engine Turning

Jeweling is a very nice touch to your custom rifle. It adds value and is very eye catching. Most commonly jeweled parts are the rifle bolt, extractor, trigger and bolt release.

Tools required are very minimal and most likely cost less than paying someone to jewel your parts for you. You would need a drill press, a Jeweling brush and Jeweling compound or automotive valve grinding compound. If you plan to jewel your bolt you will need a bolt jig which comes with everything mentioned above minus the drill press. You can buy the jig from your favorite gunsmith supply store or from MidwayUSA when at the time of writing this was the cheapest place to get it. If you are a true craftsman or like small projects you can make your own bolt Jeweling jig. Steve Wagner who is a Mauser Guru in my mind has put together a how to on building a bolt Jeweling jig click here. Be sure to check out the rest of his site for some other great how tos and Mauser info.

Jeweling is not a hard process to achieve nice results, a little time and practice and you should be turning out amazing work. Heck you may even be able to make a buck or two Jeweling your shooting or hunting buddies bolts..etc...
